Olalquiaga Arquitectos was founded in 1994, when Rafael Olalquiaga Soriano embarked on a new stage in his professional career with his own studio after having collaborated for 35 years with the architect Ramón Vázquez Molezún. During those years, he also worked closely with José Antonio Corrales. Corrales and Molezún are two of the great names in Spanish architecture of the second half of the 20th century, pioneers, along with other masters, in the modernization of Spanish architecture. This modernization brought about great works that are today a reference for later generations, but also, and almost more importantly, incorporated a clear and precise way of thinking, drawing, creating, and seeing architecture.
At Olalquiaga Arquitectos, we are the natural heirs to this architectural approach, which Rafael learned alongside Molezún and Corrales, and which Pablo and Alfonso later learned from Rafael, as they joined the studio after gaining experience in other projects at the beginning of their professional careers. We have received a legacy that marks a way of thinking and a philosophy of creation and work at Olalquiaga Arquitectos, to which we are faithful from the genesis of projects to their final development.
We work from a geometric approach without losing sight of a humanistic understanding of architecture. The production of sketches and models (fundamental before, now and always) is mixed with conversations about how these spaces will be lived in and enjoyed, how these forms will be seen from the city, from the sky. This humanistic approach is complementary to the search for functionality, understood as the necessary complementary part for architecture to fulfill its ultimate purpose: to serve the individual and society.
At Olalquiaga Arquitectos, based in Madrid, we work on building, urban planning, and interior design projects, both in new construction and rehabilitation, for both the public and private sectors.
We integrate order and balance to create homogeneous, functional, and attractive architecture.
We have carried out representative projects and works for the public administration after winning competitions, from museums or administrative buildings to hotel or public housing projects.
We have also developed several projects and works of various uses for the private sector, either by direct award or by restricted competition. These projects cover different uses, commercial, hotel, office, residential or urban planning.
We carry out architecture and urban planning projects and consulting at national and international level. We have won and obtained prizes in numerous open and restricted competitions. Our projects and works have been published in various media and magazines worldwide.
