The competition proposed a landscaping intervention and a building in the La Pala area on the University of Lausanne’s grounds, as one of the attractions for the candidacy for the 2020 Youth Olympic Games. The building is intended to accommodate 1080 student apartments, 75 faculty apartments, a sports complex, a daycare center, shops, restaurants, and a cultural center to serve as a reference point for gathering, residence, and meetings within the university campus. The project should include bridge for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles, as well as the necessary landscaping and pedestrian connections to integrate the new building into the university campus environment.
We propose a building with a distinctive volume, with a powerful and recognizable geometry that generates a gathering square while being in harmony with its surroundings. It is open on the ground floor and has well-placed openings in its envelope to allow views of the adjacent forests and access and circulation through the common space of the project.
